NEW ANDROID VERSION(ANDROID 9 PIE) AVAILABLE FOR INFINIX SMART 2 PRO
Infinix Mobility is one of the most popular smartphone brands not only in Kenya but in Africa at large. Like any other Android vendor, the Chinese company is also in a rush to roll out the new Android 9 Pie update to its devices before Android Q arrives in a few weeks’ time.
To that effect, a new update is rolling out to the Infinix Smart 2 Pro that installs the latest Android 9 Pie to the device. The Pie update, as seen in the screengrab below, tags along a new XOS 4.5.0 custom skin, up from XOS 3.0.0 that debuted with the Smart 2 Pro back in 2018.
It’s worth noting that the Smart 2 Pro update in question here was spotted in India, where this same phone is sold as Infinix Smart 2 (without the Pro moniker), so, technically, the update should begin rolling out to the Kenyan variant pretty soon, if it hasn’t arrived yet.
If you own the superior Infinix Note 5 or Note 5 Stylus here in Kenya, there is also an update to Pie for you, but unlike the Smart 2 Pro that is reportedly receiving a stable build, the version available for the Note 5 duo is in beta.
The company opened the beta registration program in mid-January 2019 and is still open, so feel free to join by filling this form and thereafter you should get the go-ahead to download Pie on your Note 5. Below is how the form looks like.
Infinix Note 5 and Note 5 Stylus Pie update
The update is targeting models X604 and X605 and comes with December 2018 security patches, as seen in the screenshot above.
Infinix Note 5 Android Pie update
Infinix is also expected to update the entire list of its 2018 devices that had Oreo preinstalled to the latest Android 9 Pie as well as the flagship Infinix Zero 6 that sneaked into its lineup quite recently, although we cannot guarantee everything we say for now.
With Pie, you are getting things like adaptive brightness, adaptive battery, app actions, and app slices, among others, but thanks to XOS, there will be some other customizations on top of stock Android.
